Size Guide
Motorcycle tire sizes look like a code, but they're easy to read once you know what each part means. Take a size like 120/70ZR17 58W as an example:
- Width (120):The first number is the tire's width in millimeters, measured from sidewall to sidewall.
- Aspect Ratio (70):The second number is the sidewall height, shown as a percentage of the width — a 70 means the sidewall is 70% as tall as the tire is wide.
- Construction (Z/R/B):R = Radial (flexible sidewall, the modern standard). B = Bias-belted (stiffer diagonal-ply construction with a stabilizing belt). A Z before the R (e.g. ZR) means the tire is speed-rated above 149 mph and is still a radial.
- Rim Diameter (17):The wheel size the tire is built to fit, in inches.
- Load Index (58):A code for the maximum weight the tire can carry when properly inflated.
- Speed Rating (W):A letter for the tire's maximum safe speed rating.
Front and rear sizes are usually different. Motorcycles almost always use a different size in front than in back, and each is matched to your bike's specific requirements — always double check your owner's manual or your current tire's sidewall, and don't mix up front and rear when ordering.
